The Incline Village General Improvement District (IVGID) is a chartered, semi-public agency that plays many roles within the communities of Crystal Bay and Incline Village, Nevada. Each of IVGID's departments- the Diamond Peak Ski Resort, the Golf Courses at Incline Village, Incline Village Parks and Recreation, Incline Village Facilities, and Incline Village Community and Public Works- is a distinct but connected part of the whole.
Challenge
Prior to the redesign, IVGID had a conglomeration of websites that failed to convey the unity of the organization. The three primary sites had a disjointed appearance, poor usability and navigation structures, excessive download speeds, and little or no consistency to the brand they represented. The challenge was to create six new sites with a unified design and shared resources, and to employ a content management system to allow the organization to manage the sites in-house with little or no technical expertise.
Solution
Hat Trick created a unique site for each of the six entities, with six distinct but thematically similar design templates. Together, the sites exhibit a consistent layout and navigation structure that improve usability and reflect the internal cohesion of IVGID. At the same time, each department can maintain its individuality within the organization, as the sites are individualized by logo, color scheme, and photography. Each site is tailored to match the entity it represents, and thus is better suited to both the client and the end user.
IVGID now has control over adding, editing and managing pages while the templates we have created maintain the design integrity. Additionally, the template and the tools we provide for client-controlled editing keep the proper semantic layout for HTML intact, thereby optimizing search engine results and usability.
Results
IVGID's new network of sites conveys the cohesion and offerings of IVGID's different departments, and is a vast improvement upon the old motley crew of sites. Community residents and visitors alike have expressed appreciation for the services the sites now provide, including the ability to reserve golf tee times, plan a wedding reception menu, report a problem with trash pickup, and even apply for a job. IVGID can now publish news updates and press releases on any combination of or all sites with ease, and available RSS feeds of the news items ensure that users are kept up-to-date. Cross-site public and private calendars help to align the various departments of IVGID, and an integrated contact form directs users' comments to the correct recipients, reducing waste and improving efficiency across the organization.
